Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant and Medserv Directors underlined the importance of European efforts to secure political stability and security in Libya whilst emphasising the need to further strengthen the already friendly relations between Libya and Malta. Medserv directors, led by Chairman Anthony Diacono, invited the Maltese MEP to visit their offices at the Malta Freeport, Birżebbugia updating Dr Sant on Medserv offshore and onshore oil and gas industry operations in the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

The Maltese MEP told Medserv Directors that the interests of Libya and its people, and those of the European Union are convergent if not identical. The country needs to go back as soon as possible to a strong and stable governance that will maintain national coherence within Libyan borders while taking into account the expectations of the different forces present.

The Maltese MEP and Medserv Directors also discussed eurozone proposals challenging the use of the US dollar whilst promoting the euro in the oil business. They referred to tensions between Washington and the EU over trade, noting that the EU is pushing to challenge the dominance of the dollar. Medserv Directors told the Maltese MEP that their oil business and commodities trading is done through the US dollar.
