Situation in Hungary

I would like to qualify my vote on this resolution with the following remarks; 1)On a general level, I doubt the value of an omnibus resolution which reviews rather indiscriminately all matters of grievance in Hungary’s positioning inside the EU, with little focus on what the priorities should be; 2)There may be scope for a new effort to carry out a dialogue with the Orban administration about some if not all of the perspectives about which there is dissent from the European Parliament and (perhaps) other EU institutions. This could first be attempted informally and confidentially, away from the public accusatory tones that have characterised most of the debates and are counter productive because they serve to harden and polarize attitudes and positions.
